Alter-Face
Piano Ensemble
About us...
Alter Face was born in 2011 with the aim to renew musical and scenic concepts of the repertoire for duo and ensembles of pianists. An attitude open to experimentation has led this group to promote numerous premieres for piano manipulated by two, piano and video or installations by composers such as Michael Beil, Alberto Bernal, Iker Güemes, Sami Klemola, Michael Maierhof, Remmy Canedo, Enric Riu, François Rossé, etc. His artistic relationships are established with creators from al around Europe and also from Latin America, such as Tomás Koljátic.
One of the most fruitful collaborations of AF has taken place thanks to Mantra by K. Stockhausen, in the version they created together with Remmy Canedo for the Musik der Jahrhundert [Stuttgart] festival and the 55th Pollença Festival. They have also performed it at the Contemporary Music Festival of the Catholic University of Santiago [Chile] together with the composer and researcher Rodrigo Cádiz.
Since 2014 this duo has been formed by Tomeu Moll-Mas and Albert Díaz, starting a very dynamic stage with various premieres and concerts at festivals such as Encontre de Compositors, Carmelo Bernaola (Vitoria), Bilbao Contemporary Music Festival, Mixtur (Barcelona) , Smash (Salamanca), Unerhörte Musik (Berlin), PHONA, MEMMIX & Encontre de Compositors (Majorca), Convent de Sant Agustí (Barcelona), Sao Paulo Contemporary Composers Festival etc. Albert Díaz and Tomeu Moll-Mas already have a long career as interpreters of classical and contemporary music, mainly in venues and festivals in Europe and America.

HOLO#1B
Concert for piano, midi controllers & vídeo based on works by Michael Beil, with some Beethoven, Rachmaninoff and holographic pianists also!
HOLO#1 was produced by Alter Face Piano Ensemble with the remote assistance and the compositions and artistic cooperation of Michael Beil (www.michael-beil.com). HOLO#1 consists of three works by Beil with two interludes by other composers. The title refers to the presence of virtual performers (on video) that appear throughout the concert, holograms of the flesh and blood performers with whom they interact.

MANTRA by Stockhausen
We imagine Mantra as a large three-dimensional sound structure in which a melodic germ expands "horizontally" throughout its duration, and "vertically" in the sparks of sounds projected by the ring modulation. The acoustic instruments "on earth" repeat the Mantra as a meditation formula; and electronic media convert it into a "cosmic" reverberation that transforms real sound into transcendent vibration.

STRING PIANO
Works for piano manipulated by two pianists dedicated to and premiered by Alter Face.
One of Alter Face's main lines of work since its founding in 2011 has been to promote the creation of many works that propose new sound perspectives and instrumental techniques in the repertoire for two pianists. Piano manipulated by two pianists is the name given to the instrumental formation to which they have devoted lots of time and effort, giving rise to the premiere of pieces that with very varied resources propose new ways within the music for this instrument, far beyond the keys.
